Heather Schrader, RVT, MCJ
PROGRAM MANAGER, STUDENT OUTREACH

Heather joined the HSVMA in March 2017 as the Program Manager of Student Outreach.  She works with veterinary students to raise awareness of animal welfare and advocacy issues through education and service.  She is excited to combine her enthusiasm for teaching and her passion for animal welfare as part of the HSVMA.

Upon becoming a volunteer at a wildlife rehabilitation center in high school, she quickly found her niche and has been working with animals for over 25 years.  She became a Registered Veterinary Technician in 2002 and jumped into emergency medicine.  After several years in private practice, she moved to academia where she could share her knowledge with veterinary students in a clinical teaching environment.

Heather received both her Bachelor of Arts in Marine Science and her Master of Criminal Justice from Boston University.  In her spare time, Heather enjoys hiking and watching movies with her husband, Jeffrey, knitting (for humans and pets!), reading and TNR.  Her furry crew includes two special needs kitties, Barnabus and Murdock, and their annoying (but adorable) sister, Poppy.
