Gail R Hansen DVM, MPH
HSVMA DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA REPRESENTATIVE

Dr. Gail Hansen is a consultant on public health policy, antibiotic resistance and stewardship, infectious diseases, and animal welfare.  She received her veterinary degree from the University of Minnesota in 1982 and her Masters of public health/epidemiology from the University of Washington in 1993. 

Before starting her private consulting business, Dr. Hansen was in veterinary practice for 12 years, an epidemiologist at the Seattle/King County Health Department, the state public health veterinarian and state epidemiologist at the Kansas Department of Health and Environment, worked as a Congressional Fellow and legislative staffer for Senator Bernie Sanders, and as a public health veterinarian for the Pew Charitable Trusts.  She has taught public health and infectious disease epidemiology at both Kansas State University and the University of Kansas.

Dr. Hansen is the Executive Director of the DCVMA and she is currently serving a 3-year term on the Public Health Committee of the Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA).
