HSVMA WASHINGTON STATE REPRESENTATIVEDr. Lauren Henderson

Dr. Lauren Henderson is the head shelter veterinarian at the Humane Society for Tacoma and Pierce County in Tacoma, Washington. She graduated from the dual-degree program at the University of Tennessee in 2016, earning a Doctorate in veterinary medicine and a Master's degree in public health.

While in veterinary school Dr. Henderson held strong interests in wildlife conservation, public health, preventative medicine, disaster relief, and spay/neuter. She moved to Houston, Texas upon graduation and worked as a small animal and exotics general practitioner. After volunteering as a disaster-relief veterinarian in Houston during Hurricane Harvey, Dr. Henderson decided to focus on low-cost preventative medicine and spay and neuter services while working for the nonprofit organization, SNAP: Spay Neuter Assistance Program.

In 2018, Dr. Henderson relocated to Washington state and began working as a shelter veterinarian for the Humane Society for Tacoma and Pierce County--one of Washington state’s oldest and largest open-intake shelters, caring for over 10,000 pets annually. Since moving to Washington, Dr. Henderson has volunteered with HSVMA RAVS in Quinault, WA and is looking forward to future volunteer opportunities. She is a member of the Association of Shelter Veterinarians, the Washington State Veterinary Medical Association, and she has been a Humane Society Veterinary Medical Association member since 2014.

In her free time, Dr. Henderson enjoys backpacking the Pacific Northwest and traveling internationally and domestically. She shares her home with one human, two dogs, two cats, and three small birds.
