Veterinary Professionals Help Protect Wildlife and Human Health in California
Advocacy

Veterinary professionals, including board-certified avian and wildlife veterinarians, demonstrated their support for AB 711 by signing HSVMA's "Statement of Veterinary Support for a Requirement of Non-Lead Ammunition for Hunting." Some also sent individual letters or emails, made phone calls to their representatives or to Governor Brown himself, and attended face-to-face meetings at the offices of their legislators. The veterinary outreach contributed immensely to the success of this coalition effort.

HSVMA applauds the veterinary advocacy and the passage of AB 711. Now, Californians can look forward to finally eliminating the persistent threat of lead toxicosis to both the wildlife and the people of their state. And since California is the first state in the nation to pass such legislation, its example will hopefully provide the impetus for similar efforts in other states around the country.
