Based on Dr. Geller’s 20 years experience as an emergency clinician, this fast-paced presentation will include practical tips and procedures for the emergency clinician, as well as students and interns considering working in emergency medicine. A special focus will be made on maintaining patient comfort and welfare concerns in the chaotic environment of the veterinary emergency room. 

Specific topics include fluid management, trickle feeding, blocked cats, pain management, complementary therapies, cut-down catheters, decontamination of toxins and pain management.

Attendees will:

  1. Discuss emergency procedures and tips for treating a wide variety of emergency conditions.
  2. Understand strategies to reduce stress in the ER
  3. Gain knowledge of pain management and patient comfort in a busy ER setting

PRESENTER: Jon Geller, DVM, DABVP emeritus, CVPM, CVJ, CHT-V

Dr. Geller graduated from CSU in 1995 and practiced as a mixed-animal house call veterinarian for 3 years before embarking on a 20 year stint as an emergency veterinarian.  He was involved in the start up and operations of 4 emergency hospitals in Colorado. In 2010, he became Board Certified with the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners, in Canine and Feline Practice.

In 2006, Dr. Geller started an emergency internship program at 2 emergency hospitals in Colorado, and then in 2018 became Co-director of the Pathway Veterinary Alliance ER Training Academy, with multiple locations throughout the US.

Dr. Geller is currently the HSVMA State Representative for Colorado. In 2019 he was named Veterinarian of the Year by the Colorado VMA.
