HSVMA Wants to Hear from You!

June 11, 2012

Last month, we discussed how we are using social media to provide our members with more opportunities to network and engage with each other, and provide a greater sense of community  for our members as well as other animal welfare-minded colleagues in the profession and the general public. Continuing in the vein of promoting community and engagement, we would like your help in telling stories that illustrate the dedication and effort that you show on behalf of the HSVMA’s mission of helping animals through advocacy, education and service.

A membership organization can be many things, but in the end it’s all about you, our members. Your support—both financially through your membership dues and donations, and in the form of your time, skills and passion when engaging in advocacy or providing direct care through programs such HSVMA’s Rural Area Veterinary Services (RAVS) and events such as Spay Day—is what makes our work possible. We want to find out what you really think about and want from our organization, and in the coming months we will be conducting some brief surveys and inviting members to participate in focus groups.

HSVMA celebrates veterinary professionals who truly represent the mission of HSVMA to protect and advocate for the welfare of animals through our annual Direct Care Veterinary Practitioner of the Year and Veterinary Advocate of the Year awards. But we know that you and thousands of your fellow members are doing great work for animals and the communities you work and reside in every day, and we want to hear your story! It’s important for us to get your feedback so we can respond to your needs, ideas, and suggestions and recognize the champions among you.

Our membership roster provides us with some basic contact and demographic information, but we’d love to know more about you: where you are from, how you became interested in pursuing a veterinary profession, your studies at veterinary school or program, how long you’ve been with the HSVMA, and anything interesting you’d like to share about your experiences. Family members, friends and colleagues can feel free to submit something on your behalf, and of course we’d love to have pictures and video that help tell your story. You could end being selected for a profile to be featured on our website and monthly e-newsletter.

Also, if you have an idea for a continuing education/webinar topic, we’d love to hear about it! We’d also like to invite you to submit ideas for articles to be featured in our monthly e-newsletter, and if your idea is selected, you can submit an article yourself and be recognized as the author or assist us in the editorial process.

You can give us your feedback, stories and ideas however works best for you: mail, e-mail or even a phone call!
