Jennifer Doll, DVM
HSVMA MAINE STATE REPRESENTATIVE

A Minnesota farm girl born and raised, Dr. Jennifer Doll attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Veterinary Medicine and graduated in 1991.

Her first 8 years as a veterinarian were spent in small animal practice outside of Seattle, Washington.

When her husband’s job took them to Eastern Iowa, Dr. Doll discovered the world of rescue/shelter/TNR work and dedicated herself to working with animals other vets could not or would not work with.

For several years, she traveled in a custom 24-foot mobile unit until it was lost in a fire. Dr. Doll then opened Iowa Humane Alliance Veterinary Services, which is closely associated with Iowa Humane Alliance (IHA). (In Iowa non-profits cannot own vet hospitals.)

Their primary service was high-volume high-quality spay/neuter (HVHQSN), and by the end of the more than 11 years she was there, Dr. Doll was doing an average of 55 surgeries a day!

Dr. Doll’s rescue of and living with giant pythons, American Alligators, black bears, cougars, rattlesnakes, etc., left her little time for rest--not that she really wanted to rest. She wrote Raccoons Stole My Baby Jesus, a book of stories about these animals.

Dr. Doll and her husband, Torben, moved to Maine in 2023 and joined Maine Animal Health Alliance (MAHA) in Augusta the month it opened, that November, working three days a week. MAHA is based on the same Humane Alliance model as IHA, and they are already overwhelmed with the great demand for their services.

Dr. Doll and her husband, Torben, live in a proverbial cabin in the woods and love it. Their two adult children, Joe, and Kris, remain in Iowa City and are greatly missed.

Dr. Doll reminds herself daily that she is supposed to slow down, but that is challenging when so many animals are in need. She is the Maine Representative for both HSVMA and The Paw Project.
