HSVMA ANIMAL WELFARE SYMPOSIUM FOR VETERIN ARY STUDENTS

The fifth annual HSVMA Animal Welfare Symposium will bring together future vet erinary professionals for a shared goal: to improve the lives of all animal s. Not only will participants gain a better understanding of the many issue s that animals face in our society and how the profession can help, the sym posium will also serve as a place to share ideas, knowledge, and practical skills.
This year’s conference will featu re important and timely animal welfare issues including animal cruelty repo rting and forensics, equine welfare, shelter medicine, caring for pets of t he indigent, and exotic companion mammals.
The HSVMA Animal Welfare Symposium is co-presented by the Humane So ciety Veterinary Medical Association and the Michigan State Un iversity College of Veterinary Medicine.
A complimentar y lunch will be provided, as well as a light breakfast and snacks.
Several students will be presenting their researc h in poster format during the symposium and will be available to answer que stions.

The Street Dog Coalition will be partnering with several other organizations to provid e services to the Detroit homeless population. Veterinary students have th e opportunity to help provide free basic veterinary care to their pets. Va ccinations, parasite preventative and spay/neuter vouchers will be given to both dogs and cats.
