How Veterina ry Professionals Can Help Improve the Health and Welfare of Brachycephalics
Presented by Dr. Sea n Wensley, BVSc, MSc, FRCVS
Mond ay, January 21, 2019 - 5:30-6:45 pm
O range County Convention Center, Room S330 E/F
Brachycephalic dogs can be endearing, but their body shape – and in particular their flat face - is linked to health problems that reduce their quality of life. Add ressing these preventable problems offers a poster-child for the veterinary profession’s dual responsibility to animal welfare – on the one hand, to p rovide essential treatment to affected animals, while concurrently advocati ng for root-cause solutions. Drawing on his collaborative work with the UK Brachycephalic Working Group, Dr Sean Wensley will highlight how veterinari ans around the world are speaking up about health and welfare harms linked to selective breeding, including the British Veterinary Association’s #Bree dToBreathe and #HealthOverLooks campaigns, and his work with the national U K veterinary charity, the People’s Dispensary for Sick Animals (PDSA), incl uding engaging with Disney on their 2018 movie, Patrick the Pug. p>
