Veterinary clinical trials serve to advance our knowledge of disease processes, guide drug development and licensing, increase our ability to practice evidence-based medicine, and provide our clients access to novel therapies that would otherwise not be possible.

Historically conducted primarily in academic centers, veterinary clinical trials are being conducted with increasing frequency in private practice settings leading to greater accessibility to a wider range of pet owners. Clinical trial networks of both academic and referral clinics exist, which aid in rapid case accrual for existing trials.
