HSVMA Wildlife Care Basics handbook

Last November, HSVMA Board Member and veterinary director of the Cape Wildlife Center, Dr. Roberto Aguilar, presented a webinar on basic emergency wildlife care for veterinary hospitals. We are pleased to announce that the handbook that provided the inspiration for that presentation, Wildlife Care Basics for Veterinary Hospitals, is currently available for purchase for $35. Current HSVMA members are eligible for a special discounted rate of $25.

This handbook, a joint project of the HSVMA and the animal care centers of The Humane Society of the United States contains information about how to temporarily care for and treat injured and orphaned wildlife. This book is not only a valuable reference manual for veterinarians and shelter personnel providing short-term emergency care and housing, but it also helps facilitate the transfer of disabled wild animals to licensed wildlife rehabilitators. Tips for educating and screening the public are included, along with some relevant resource materials.

The book is available for sale online in the Animal Sheltering Marketplace. If you are an HSVMA member, you can find the code to take advantage of the special $25 rate (or download a FREE copy!) by logging in here, or contact us for the discount code.

If you are not sure of your current membership status, please log into your member profile to check your expiration date or contact the Member Benefits department at 301-258-1478 or by e-mail. You can also contact us if you have forgotten or don’t know your username and/or password.
