The reported case of a Texas veterinarian allegedly killing a cat with a bow and arrow and then boasting about it on social media illustrates a violent act against an animal, an unethical act as a veterinarian, and an immoral act as a human being. Dr. Barry Kellogg, VMD, senior veterinary advisor for HSVMA, issued the following statement:

"HSVMA strongly condemns this kind of abhorrent behavior. Veterinarians enjoy a special trust granted to us by society, and when we violate that trust, we do harm to all of society. We appreciate the swift actions by the veterinarian’s employer to fire her. We urge law enforcement authorities and the Texas Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners to promptly and fully investigate this matter. The veterinary profession must always respond quickly and decisively to the kind of behavior, depicted on social media in this instance."
