Veterinary Professionals Urged to Comment on AVMA Welfare Policies

The Humane Society Veterinary Medical Association (HSVMA) urges veterinarians who are members of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) to consider submitting comments on a variety of animal welfare policy statements currently up for review. The deadline for submitting comments is March 1, 2012.

HSVMA Seeking Veterinary Professionals for Humane Lobby Day and Other Advocacy Opportunities

As a small animal practitioner in northern California, my clinical work involves helping my animal patients on a one-on-one basis. Throughout the year, I also look for opportunities to express my support for animals on a broader level. An effective and efficient way to do this is to get involved in supporting state and federal animal welfare legislation since legislators view veterinary professionals as experts in animal health and welfare issues.

Pinnacle of Change

How better to address change than to have a former student graduate from veterinary school, continue to work with you for a few more years to further enhance her education and professional experience, and then see her appointed Dean of her veterinary college? That’s exactly what has happened with the HSVMA-RAVS program at the University of El Salvador College of Veterinary Medicine, as a result of the passion of three Salvadoran female veterinarians to enhance the education and experience of students in their own university despite economic hardships.
