HSVMA Seeks Nominations for Outstanding Veterinary Care Provider and Advocate

October 12, 2010

HSVMA is seeking nominations for its second annual Direct Care Veterinary Practitioner of the Year and Veterinary Advocate of the Year awards. The awards celebrate veterinarians and veterinary technicians who have gone to great lengths in their efforts to help animals and promote animal protection in the profession.

The HSVMA Direct Care Veterinary Practitioner Award will recognize a veterinary professional who has demonstrated extraordinary commitment and compassion for animals in need by volunteering his or her time in the United States or abroad.

The HSVMA Veterinary Advocate Award will recognize a veterinary professional who has excelled in advocating for the welfare of animals via the legislative arena, mass media, public education, outreach to the veterinary profession or other methods.

Earlier this year, the inaugural awards were presented to Dr. Jennifer Doll of Solon, Iowa, who was recognized as the HSVMA Direct Care Practitioner of the Year, and Dr. Jennifer Muller of Philadelphia, who was recognized as the HSVMA Veterinary Advocate of the Year. Dr. Doll has been involved in prosecuting animal cruelty cases, is a founder of a nonprofit group that cares for special needs cats, performs spay/neuter surgeries for a local shelter, and has provided medical care and treatment for a wide range of rescued wildlife. Dr. Muller has been a leader in efforts to improve living conditions and strengthen regulations at Pennsylvania's notorious puppy mills.

Nominations of veterinary professionals who deserve recognition for their work in promoting animal protection or providing animal care will be accepted online or by mail . The deadline to submit a nomination is Feb. 28, 2011.

Winners will be recognized during an HSVMA reception at Animal Care Expo in May 2011. Recipients of the awards will also receive accommodations at a convention hotel, airfare to Florida, and a one-day complimentary registration to the conference.
